India's Leading Manufacturers of Chrome Oxide Green

Chrome oxide green is chromium (III) oxide – an inorganic pigment prized for holding its colour through conditions that break down almost every other green on the market. If your application involves years of sun exposure, chemical contact, or repeated heat cycling, this is usually the pigment that survives when others chalk or fade.

That resilience isn’t a marketing claim; it comes straight from the chemistry. Chromium oxide is one of the most chemically inert compounds used in pigment manufacturing, which is exactly why it shows up in industries where a colour has to last decades, not seasons.

Why Is Chrome Oxide Green Preferred Over Other Green Pigments?

Because nothing else in the green pigment family matches its combined resistance to light, weather, heat, and chemicals in a single compound. Most organic greens sacrifice one of these properties to gain another – chrome oxide green doesn’t make that trade-off.

This matters most in construction and industrial coatings, where a pigment gets exposed to direct sunlight, temperature swings, and sometimes acidic or alkaline conditions all at once. A pigment that fades under UV light or reacts with alkaline cement is a liability on a project meant to last thirty years. Chrome oxide green simply doesn’t have that failure point.

Core properties that set it apart:

• Outstanding lightfastness – colour doesn’t shift or fade under prolonged sun exposure
• Strong resistance to heat and chemical attack, including acids and alkalis
• High opacity and hiding power, so less pigment covers more surface
• Long-term colour durability across outdoor and industrial-grade applications

Where Is Chrome Oxide Green Used in Construction and Industrial Coatings?

Its two biggest markets are paints and coatings, and construction materials – both settings where colour permanence matters more than upfront cost. A coating that needs to be reapplied every five years costs more over a building’s lifetime than one specified the first time correctly.

Typical applications include:

• Industrial and architectural paints requiring maximum durability
• Concrete colouring for structural and decorative work
• Roofing tiles that face constant sun and weather exposure
• Floor coatings in industrial settings exposed to chemical spills or heavy wear

Because it’s an olive-toned green powder with high opacity, it also reduces the amount of pigment needed to achieve full coverage – a practical cost factor for large-volume construction projects where pigment usage adds up fast across thousands of square metres.

How Should You Handle and Store Chrome Oxide Green Pigment?

Treat it like any standard industrial powder pigment – keep it dry, sealed, and away from contamination during storage and mixing. It’s supplied as a standardised powder, typically in 25 kg HDPE bags, which keeps moisture out and makes dosing predictable across large batches.

1. Store bags sealed in a dry area to prevent moisture absorption before use.
2. Weigh doses accurately since consistent dispersion depends on precise pigment-to-binder ratios.
3. Mix thoroughly into your paint, coating, or concrete base to avoid streaking from uneven distribution.
4. Test a small batch first if you’re using it in a new formulation or substrate.
5. Keep technical documentation on hand for regulatory or quality-control records, especially on construction projects.

Conclusion

Chrome oxide green earns its place in construction and industrial coatings because it does something few pigments manage – it holds its colour through light, heat, weather, and chemical exposure all at once.

Key takeaways:

• Its chromium (III) oxide chemistry makes it one of the most chemically stable green pigments available
• It’s the go-to choice for concrete, roofing tiles, and floor coatings where colour has to last for decades
• Supplied as a standardised powder in 25 kg HDPE bags, it’s straightforward to dose and mix into large-volume projects

Frequently Asked Questions

What is chrome oxide green pigment made of?

Chrome oxide green is chemically chromium (III) oxide, an inorganic compound classified under CI Number 77288, valued for its exceptional chemical stability compared to organic green pigments.

Is chrome oxide green resistant to fading?

Yes, it has outstanding lightfastness, meaning it resists colour fading even under prolonged, direct sun exposure, which is why it’s a preferred choice for exterior architectural and industrial applications.

Can chrome oxide green be used in concrete?

Yes, it’s a primary colourant for concrete, roofing tiles, and floor coatings, valued in construction specifically for its ability to hold consistent colour across large-volume pours and long project lifespans.

Does chrome oxide green resist chemical exposure?

Yes, it offers excellent resistance to both acids and alkalis, which makes it suitable for industrial flooring and coatings that may come into contact with chemical spills or cleaning agents.

What form does chrome oxide green come in?

It’s supplied as a standardised green powder, typically packed in 25 kg HDPE bags, making it straightforward to dose and mix into paints, coatings, or construction materials.

What’s the difference between chrome oxide green and organic green pigments?

Organic green pigments generally offer brighter, more vivid shades but weaker resistance to heat, weather, and chemicals, while chrome oxide green trades some vibrancy for far superior long-term stability and durability.

Why is high opacity important in chrome oxide green?

High opacity means the pigment provides strong hiding power, so a smaller quantity achieves full, even coverage – a practical advantage in large-scale construction and industrial coating applications where pigment cost and consistency both matter.
